A marriage license is the document that allows a couple to legally marry and the marriage certificate proves the marriage. The court also handles marriage abstracts, which are summaries of information contained in a marriage certificate. These are typically used for annulments or genealogy purposes.

Marriage records may be requested via email or mail. Request forms are provided on the Probate Court’s website. Copies cost $2. If the fee is paid by mail, it must be in the form of a money order made payable to Lucas County Probate Court. A self-addressed stamped envelope should also be included. Only cash is accepted when requests are made in person.

Divorce Records are kept by the Lucas County Clerk of Courts Domestic Relations Division. Divorce records are legal documents the court issues to finalize the termination of a divorce that outline the terms of the settlement. They are often used for genealogical research, background checks, and other legal proceedings. For information about obtaining these records, call 419-213-6902.
